Iridium Data Services
Using your computer and an Iridium satellite phone, you can connect to the Internet or a corporate network from virtually anywhere in the world, allowing you to browse the web, send and receive email and transfer files. You can configure your computer for two different types of data calls, depending on your needs: Dial-Up Data or Direct Internet Data.
Dial-Up Data Service provides dial-up connectivity from a PC, through your Iridium phone to another computer, a corporate network/LAN or an Internet Service Provider (ISP). This service offers a data rate of up to 2.4 Kbps.

Direct Internet Data Service provides connectivity from a PC, through your Iridium phone, directly to the Internet through dedicated servers at the Iridium gateway. This service utilizes transparent compression, resulting in a data rate of up to 10 Kbps, depending on content. (Graphics and images will result in lower throughput).

Globalstar Data Services
Internet Access from Globalstar allows you to go beyond the limits of cellular data services. Easy to install and use, you choose what your Globalstar phone is attached to: a laptop computer or a PDA (personal digital assistant). No hassling with 12 keys on a phone keypad and limited lines of text on a small phone display screen.
Now you can retrieve e-mail, web pages and more via your Globalstar phone at our standard low airtime rates. With a Globalstar Phone, Data Kit, and your laptop or handheld computer, you're ready to connect to the Internet wherever your work or life takes you!
Satellite voice and data minutes used are billed at the customer's per-minute rate plan. Data minutes are billed like voice minutes; they are deducted from bundled minutes if available, or billed at the same rate as voice if using additional minutes.
Globalstar Data Services provides up to three times the data link-up speed of most mobile satellite services. Using the reliability of satellite communications, Globalstar Data Services keeps you connected with the rest of the world.

StratosNet - Inmarsat Data Service
Integrated Internet Service For the Mobile Satellite User
Stratos has a deep commitment to efficient mobile satellite communications. As such, Stratos realizes that traditional Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use networks that are not typically designed to address the needs of mobile satellite users. Therefore, Stratos developed StratosNet - a service that is optimized for cost-effective Internet Services for satellite phones.
StratosNet advantages include:
- Accommodates many different satellite data speeds - 2.4, 4.8, 9.6, 56 and 64 kbps
Unlike conventional Internet Services, which are mostly designed to handle higher data speeds, Stratos has tailored its service to the mobile satellite user, where lower data speeds are more common. Depending on the service, StratosNet allows you to transmit data efficiently, at speeds as low as 2.4 kbps, while also taking advantage of automatic data compression (see below). StratosNet includes a variety of custom modem drivers for many different satellite terminal types.
- Optional Web Browsing
Standard Internet service normally includes Internet e-mail, as well as the capability to browse the web. StratosNet can do this as well, along with an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) capability, however, we also realize that some satellite terminals may not want the ability to browse the web to be available to users of their satellite phone. Therefore, Stratos offers the option to disable web browsing on your StratosNet account.
- On-the-Fly Compression of all information transmitted
Stratos understands that every minute counts for mobile users. We've included compression software as an integral part of our service to help reduce your satellite airtime charges, for both e-mail and web browsing, if the web browsing option is chosen. StratosNet users will typically experience a minimum of 4:1 data compression for e-mail transactions, 2:1 for web browsing, all totally transparent to the user. Compression is fully automatic for all information sent over the satellite link.
- Compatibility with all Stratos circuit-switched data services
StratosNet accommodates all of the circuit-switched data services Stratos currently offers, including Inmarsat, MarineSat/LandSat and Oceancell. If you have multiple terminals, they can all be configured to access StratosNet services through the same user name and password.
- Unique message waiting notification
Avoid the high costs of dialing in to check if that important message has arrived. Your StratosNet account can be set to automatically send a short message to an alternate messaging device capable of receiving an Internet e-mail, such as an Inmarsat-C terminal (StratosMail) or any Internet e-mail address.
- No unwanted messages in your mailbox
Your StratosNet user profile can be tailored to determine who can and CANNOT send messages to your mailbox. The StratosNet service can be configured to include or exclude all e-mail addresses or accept/reject all messages from a single domain name or specific e-mail address.
- Works with standard Internet applications
While the StratosNet installation CD comes complete with standard Internet applications (including e-mail software, web browser and FTP software), the StratosNet service can also be used with other Internet applications.
- Download only the messages you want to read or download all messages*
StratosNet's e-mail capability can be configured to operate in one of two modes. Using the IMAP protocol, you can simply view the subject lines and other header information in your mailbox, then choose the messages you want to download. You can also delete messages remotely without viewing them. In POP3 mode, you can simply download all emails at once. The choice is yours.
- Pay only for satellite airtime
There are no registration or monthly fees associated with use of the StratosNet service, and the CD is free as well. You pay only the satellite airtime charges incurred to connect to StratosNet, as itemized on your monthly bill.
- 24-hour, 7 days-a-week customer care
Stratos has skilled customer service professionals working around the clock to assist you with any aspect of StratosNet service, including configuration, hardware/software and network issues.
